The Bosch Unlimited has a size of 130 cm (51.2 inches) from top to bottom. That’s about the same as most other cordless vacuum cleaners on the market. Most people can vacuum comfortably with this size. When it comes to suction, the Unlimited 7 proved to be a bit of a lightweight in our tests. A good vacuum cleaner isn’t only about the suction, but power in this regard certainly helps. On its most powerful setting, the vacuum only measured 11kPa. As you can see from our chart below, that’s only just over one-third of what a Dyson V15 Detect can manage (before it cuts out), and its similarly priced rivals are all more powerful even in low-power mode.

This is less powerful than the low power modes on all its key rivals. The Dyson V8 and V7 are far more powerful, as are the Xiaomi Roidmi F8 and X20 and the Shark DuoClean Wireless. Even the budget Beldray Airgility Max produces more suction than the Bosch at low power.Bosch Unlimited 8’s noise level is measured between 67 and 71 dB, which is tolerable, and I could still have a conversation with my wife while vacuuming without raising my voice. This volume is quieter than many of its premium cordless competitors, including the Dyson V15, which produces 71 to 76 dB of noise. Display Screen Emptying the collection bin is a fairly old-school endeavour. It sits at right angles to the extension wand, so this needs removing before the bin can be extracted from the handheld unit. The filter is then lifted out, leaving just the cup full of dust to be tipped into the bin. The brush is 25 cm (9.8 inches) wide, and its roller has a width of 21 cm (8.3 inches). That size is entirely sufficient for cleaning. We even reached the corners and got under most of our furniture.

Both floorheads of the Dyson V15 did a great job of limiting the hair wrap issue. Its High Torque 2.0 floorhead also features a row of fangs, which help send most of the vacuumed hair into the dust cup instead of letting it end up on the roller. Thanks to that, it is unnecessary to spend minutes cleaning the roller after each cleaning session. The Turbo mode is a very, very different story, albeit one you must manually engage every time you switch on. Punch that button on top and the BCS122GB does a Tesla and goes ‘Insane’. Suction and airflow are multiples of the normal power mode, delivering great cleaning ability. Jekyll and Hyde? You bet. The Bosch Unlimited 8 has two vacuuming settings: normal and turbo. Likewise, the Bosch Unlimited 8 features three cleaning modes: eco, auto, and boost. In Turbo and Boost modes, these vacuums will, of course, have the most suction, making them the best cleaners they can be. Those are also the settings I used for my tests. Hard floors The cleaning performance on hard floors was outstanding. It just took a little longer with the lentils and the oat flakes because it pushed a few lentils in front of the brush at first. The Bosch came out with flying colours in our cleaning test thanks to the super-strong suction power . The cordless vacuum cleaner sometimes removed even more dirt from the carpets than we had spread on them.

How we test our cordless vacuum cleaners

This combination allows Bosch to claim ‘unlimited’ runtime for this cleaner. On standard power setting, it will go for an hour, and the charger can power up a battery in 55minutes. With the two batteries, theoretically, you simply won’t run out of power. However, those huge runtime differences highlight the equally massive difference in suction power between modes, and we think Bosch has got it very wrong here. Except, in fact, you can: the Vax ONEPWR Blade 5 Dual Pet & Car comes with all the attachments you might need and a second battery. While those batteries don’t last as long as the Bosch’s, its soft roller helped it perform better in our all-round cleaning tests. The extension wand has a hinge about two-thirds of the way up that can be released to allow it to bend up to 90 degrees. This is particularly useful for getting under low furniture. The long, bendy crevice tool is also handy for getting into narrow spaces behind wardrobes and radiators. It’s not unique to Bosch, but there aren’t many models that come with one of these as standard.
