About this deal

Scott Concepcion: “I did. There’s plenty of little guitar parts and overlapping intricacies that form melodies when listened to together. Jim Abbiss [producer] brought out his Höfner electric thumb piano too, it was incredible.” Copsey, Rob (1 October 2021). "The Lathums score Number 1 debut album with How Beautiful Life Can Be". Official Charts Company . Retrieved 1 October 2021. Alex: “During a solo, Scott’s gonna ascend: he’s just gonna start flying. We’re gonna spend all of our budget on Scott flying.” You’re also joining the festival circuit this summer. Are you confident The Lathums can become festival headliners in the near future?

Simultaneously stating that the album, set for release on Friday 3rd March 2023 on Island Records will be ‘an act of rebellion having seen the rules of the game’ and encompass more of the ‘sad and strange’, the new single follows springtime’s infectious, soaring teaser, Sad Face Baby out into The Lathums’ brave new world. Promising a total of eleven songs, From Nothing To A Little Bit More follows the UK Official Album Charts No.1 success of the band’s 2021 debut, How Beautiful Life Can Be. In November 2022, the band announced their second album, From Nothing to a Little Bit More. Following the announcement, "Say My Name" and "Turmoil" were released. In April 2022, the band released Sad Face Baby, the last single to feature Johnny Cunliffe on bass before his departure in 2022. The band brought on Matty Murphy as a replacement, but was not officially dubbed as a member until January 2023. During the time of Cunliffe's absence, the band were a support act for The Killers. Moore got the chance to do a cover of How Beautiful Life Can Be with them on stage, with Alex on acoustic guitar and Brandon Flowers on co-lead vocals. [8] Alex: “It was more inspiring, the fact that [Flowers] took the time to come and speak to us. He said, ‘You write great choruses’ and stuff like that. He was a proper gentleman. That’s how I want people who represent our industry to be: they don’t think they’re above anything. He was really encouraging to us, and said lots of nice things. You only get to live that kind of thing — going on stage with The Killers — once, so I’m sorted now, me.” Might Brandon Flowers join The Lathums on stage at the Castlefield Bowl? Not that the pandemic hampered The Lathums’ lofty ambitions too much, mind. After signing to Island Records in early 2020, the band’s debut LP shot straight to the top of the UK Albums Chart in October 2021, toppling Drake of all people from the Number One slot. “We will take on anybody in any big area!” Moore adds now about that memorable chart victory. “You can’t keep this music down.” Having lived their rollercoaster ride to the top of the charts and main stages inside just two years, The Lathums state their intentions to supercharge their continued rise with the release of "Say My Name". It’s the first, incendiary single to be lifted from their upcoming, second album: From Nothing To A Little Bit More announced at the same time as the biggest UK Tour to date, including dates at Manchester’s Albert Hall and London’s iconic Roundhouse. AM: “A lot of the album is music for an individual—personal music—and we wanted something for everybody in the crowd to get behind, where everybody takes the song for themselves and the energy from everybody is just so good. We’re conscious about stuff like that now. We’re never selfish with it, we never wanted to keep it to ourselves. We always wanted to express it to people but now we understand that, at a show, it’s their time to have a laugh and have a jump around. You have to write a song that’s sat in that category.”

Alex has made no secret of his personal struggles which are evident throughout, but there is an overiding sense of optimism from a young man appreciating his gift and the people who have contributed to his band’s platform, all whilst he comes to terms with himself and grows as a person.

Undeserving’ isaraw and honest navigation throughthebattles that go on inside ones head, ‘its frighting whatthemind can start to think of at half past nine’. The Lathums Sign Massive Deal With Island Records". Only A Northern One. 11 March 2020 . Retrieved 24 January 2023. Alex Moore: “What’s the point in putting so much into something that you’re not genuinely passionate about? I think it’s quite refreshing that people can see that there’s genuine feelings behind these songs, not like a lot of music that’s out nowadays that’s got no emotion or substance behind it. You can tell those people are singing about what they think people want [to hear]. But I don’t give you what you want: I give you what you need.” Are you confident that your fans will connect with the emotional depth of your new material? There’s a lot more people [listening] now, which is very good for us. The reaction has more than doubled,” frontman Alex Moore tells NME over Zoom. “We’re just waiting for the album to come out now, so we can take the next step. We’re excited to be able to play it [live]. This has been our only traditional release: we started when the world was crazy, really.” Drummer Ryan Durrans chips in: “When the world was crazier.” AM: “This is a gorgeous piece of music, especially if you take the vocals away! It was fun recording this because it was out of our comfort zone. I was very proud of us after we’d finished it because we’d never done a song like this before. We didn’t really know what we were doing with it at the beginning, but we kept at it and it’s become quite special. It’s of its own kin, there’s not many songs like it about at the moment. It gives us more confidence to express things in different ways.”

NME: ‘From Nothing To A Little Bit More’ is The Lathums’ most personal and honest record to date. Was that always the intention? From Nothing To A Little Bit More is out this Friday (March 3rd). Head to https://www.thelathums.com/ for more information.

Lyrically emotive, running river deep for front man, Alex Moore, yet audaciously stitched with stadium-sized guitars and brooding rhythms, the statement single found its voice with Jim Abbiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys, Bombay Bicycle Club) in the album producer’s chair. Alex Moore: “I felt that this was a powerful song to start with—it sets off the narrative for the rest of the album. It felt right to be the spearhead. I started writing it when I was a lot younger, and I couldn’t finish it because I wasn’t old enough to understand it at that point—but the end of it came out of me later down the line.” The Lathums: Wigan indie band score debut number one album".
