About this deal

The test strip included (left to right) red wine, orange juice, ketchup, vegetable oil and gravy stains. On the 30ºC wash, the image below shows that stain removal was pretty good, although you can still see a clear outline of the red wine stain, plus a mark from the ketchup. It’s decent performance, but more expensive machines – such as the LG V9 F4V909BTS – clean better, albeit at a higher cost. The wash took just over two hours to complete. Overview –The drain programme is shown by a symbol of a spiral with a downward arrow. This setting removes water from the drum of the washing machine during a wash cycle. Overview –The fitness symbol is a T-shirt with a racquet. It’s designed specifically for washing sportswear or clothing made from synthetic fibers and runs for 29 minutes at 40 degrees Celsius. Best used for – Washing clothes that are prone to creasing and those that you want to iron before putting away in your drawers and wardrobe.

There’s also a dial position to turn on Wi-Fi, letting you connect the washing machine to the Hoover hOn app. It’s important to note that you can only use the app while the machine is set to Wi-Fi mode; if you use a different programme, you’ll lose the remote connection. This means that using the app requires you to programme the machine with the app. This is different to the way the Samsung WW9800T works; it lets you use the app at any point. For the most part, you’ll operate the Hoover H-Wash 500 HWB via the controls on the front of the machine. First, there’s the control dial that lets you select the wash programme; you’ll need to refer to the manual to find the right wash for each load. There are plenty of options to choose from, however, including modes for whites, wool, fitness gear and allergy care. There are programme symbols on the front of every model of Hoover washing machine. These symbols enable you to identify which washing programme you’re using and adjust the settings according to your needs. Below are some of the standard programme symbols that you’ll find on a Hoover washer. Cotton There are some faster cycles you can run for lesser-soiled items, but the main programmes on this washing machine are quite slow.Overview –The baby 60 wash programme is denoted by an image of a baby’s bottle with a dummy. This programme sets the temperature to a minimum of 60 degrees Celsius to provide an extensive wash that removes bacteria and allergens from your baby’s clothing. But what do you do when the symbols have rubbed off/worn off? You could read through the user manual, but if you’ve got no idea where yours has gone, this guide should teach you everything you need to know. Overview –The symbol for mixed and synthetic garments shows a triangular container, and it’s another common setting across most Hoover washing machine models. The Active Balance Technology provides the best rinsing results reducing washing time and vibrations, thanks to its spinning optimization.

Next, to work out accurate running costs per year, I take the average number of UK cycles per year (274) and multiply this by three different load sizes – high (6kg), medium (4.5kg) and low (3.5kg) – to get a total amount of washing per year. In this instance, high users would have to make 164.4 full loads to complete all the washing, rather than the 274 UK average.Hoover’s app can still be useful. It provides access to a wider range of programmes, including special cycles designed for cleaning specific items: diving suits, face masks and bloodstains are just some that jump out. Plus, each programme is described in detail, which makes it a bit easier to understand. Overview –The rinse programme washes your clothes with fresh, clean water. You’d use this setting after a full wash cycle to freshen up your clothes. It’s shown by a symbol of a washing basket with sprinkles of water above it. Overview –The jeans wash programme is shown by a symbol of a pair of jeans. This setting is specifically designed for washing denim clothing. H-WASH 500 is the unique washing machine offering a complete set of 9 Care Cycles that allows you to take care of all your favourite clothes, preserving fibers for longer and without any effort. Hoover washing machines are a series of symbols associated with the wash cycles for special garments. Duvet Programme

Switching to the 40ºC wash on the Eco 40-60 programme, I re-ran the test. This time, the washing machine used just 0.21kWh of power and only 37.1 litres of water, the trade-off being that this programme took more than three hours to run. This time, water retention was lower at 35.94%. H-WASH 500 is featured by an advanced algorithm that calculates and auto-sets the most suitable programme adapting detergent, water and time according to fibers and load, guaranteeing an improved efficiency with no wastes. H-WASH 500 is equipped with the new-generation Eco-Power Inverter Motor, the most long-lasting and powerful belt technology available on the market. Overview –The symbol you’ll need to find when washing silk and delicate garments is the image of a butterfly. This programme is ideal for washing delicate fabrics, such as silk and lace.Overview –The care 14/30/44 lets you choose how long you want to wash a load for, with the option of either 14, 30, or 44 minutes in total. It’s shown by an image of two leaves with the numbers 14, 30, and 44 below them. Overview –The eco wash setting on your Hoover machine uses a lower temperature than a standard wash cycle, so it uses less energy. It’s shown by an image of two leaves. There are two main washing machine symbols that you need to know about with any shooter washer – detergent and fabric softener, and fabric softener. Detergent and Fabric Softener
